Therapies at Sankofa move beyond treating symptoms by identifying the cause of your ailments and balancing your system as a whole. The stimulation of acupuncture points and the movement if qi (vital energy) in the body causes an increase in the production of endorphins and simultaneously activates the immune system and endocrine systems. Any condition, no matter how simple or serious can be helped by freeing up blocked energy. Energy therapies can be used safely in conjunction with any other therapy or medication.
Acupuncture is over 3,000 years old! Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into the body at specific points along the energy pathways known as meridians to prevent and treat a wide range of health conditions. It is proven to be an effective, safe alternative or complementary medicine which helps to restore balance in the body, relieving symptoms, and assisting in regaining health. Acupuncture can also be used as a preventative measure to maintain health and vigor throughout one’s life. Each treatment is tailored to you as an individual, not just a condition. Some commonly treated conditions are back and neck pain, allergies, anxiety, migraines, stress, headaches, sciatica, side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, arthritis, asthma, and many other conditions.
Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body’s life force to aid healing. Acupuncture uses the same points but employs needles, while acupressure (the older of the two) uses gentle but firm pressure.
Acupressure, using the strength and sensitivity of your practitioners’ hands can be done to you and by you. This therapy is great for pain relief, energy balancing and relieving symptoms of medications and disease.
Tai chi is a low impact, slow-motion exercise using movement and breathing. It is often described as "meditation in motion" as it is a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.
Tai chi differs from other types of exercise in several respects. The movements are usually circular and never forced, the muscles are relaxed rather than tensed, the joints are not fully extended or bent, and connective tissues are not stretched.
Tai chi can be easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to people confined to wheelchairs or recovering from surgery. Call to book your private session with Dr. Larry
During a qigong session the practitioner uses qi (chee), or vital energy to harmonize the systems of the body. Stagnant energy is removed and vital energy restored. As a result, you experience reduced pain, stress relief, surge in energy and a healthier body.
Your practitioner does not need to touch your physical body during a qigong session because he/she works in your energy field. You may feel tingling or a warm sensation as the qi moves through the body.
Qigong therapy often accompanies an acupuncture or cupping treatment.
Tui-Na is Chinese medical massage or Chinese physiotherapy. Tui-Na has an identical purpose to acupuncture, which is to free blocked energy. One big difference between them is that no needles are used.
This artful form of bodywork allows you to feel restored and balanced. An increase in vitality is experienced with an overall sense of well-being. This therapy is excellent for muscular pains and stress relief.
We have many chakras (energy centers) on and off our bodies. We are like an orchestra! When one of our chakras is ‘out of tune’ our whole being is out of order and we don’t function like we want. Having your chakras balanced allows you to feel, think and function in a more balanced and grounded fashion.
Life has many ups and downs. We are affected by people, our environment and all the experiences we have had since childhood. All these things cause our chakras to shift. Regular chakra balancing will help you in all areas of your life.
You just lie on the table fully clothed and allow the practitioner to balance each chakra!
Cupping has been utilized for thousands of years in China and other countries to help move blocked qi – energy (chee) out of the body.
A cupping treatment consists of magnetic cups being applied to specific areas of the body. Warmth may be experienced as the qi moves through the body. Cupping assists in removing both tension and relieving pain in the muscles of your body.
